1. The Big Picture: Your Balsamiq Workspace
When you first open Balsamiq, you’ll see a workspace that is cleanly divided into four main areas. Each section has a specific job, and they all work together to help you create your mockups efficiently.
- Navigator This area helps you organize and see all the different wireframe pages within your project at a glance.
- UI Library This is your toolbox, filled with all the pre-built screen elements—like buttons, menus, and text fields—that you’ll use to build your designs.
- Inspector When you select an element in your wireframe, this panel appears, allowing you to customize its properties and settings. This panel is toggled; depending on your selection, this area can also show overall Project Information instead of the properties for a specific element.
- Wireframe Area (The Canvas) This is your main canvas, where you will drag, drop, and arrange elements from the UI Library to construct the layout for your screen.
Now that you have a map of the workspace, let’s take a closer look at the most important area for getting started: the UI Library.
