Introduction: The Language of Signals
The word “communication” comes to us from the Latin word communicare, which simply means “to share.” At its core, communication is the process of sharing information, whether it’s a baby crying to signal a need or a person using language to share complex ideas. In the world of technology, we share information over vast distances using communication systems.
To do this, we need a signal, which can be defined as “a source of energy which transmits some information.” Think of it as the vehicle that carries a message from a sender to a receiver. These signals come in two fundamental types: Analogue and Digital.
