3.0 Standardization Context and Governance
Understanding a standard’s provenance is crucial for ensuring proper compliance and performing intellectual property due diligence.
ITU-T Recommendation G.729 Annex C+ was prepared by ITU-T Study Group 16 during the 1997-2000 study period. The recommendation was formally approved under the WTSC Resolution No. 1 procedure on 17 February 2000.
For any organization implementing this standard, the following compliance note is critical. The “Intellectual Property Rights” section of the recommendation document states that the ITU draws attention to the possibility that some elements of the standard may be the subject of claimed patents. The ITU takes no position on the evidence or validity of such claims. Therefore, implementors are strongly urged to consult the TSB patent database for the most current information.
Like many technical standards, this recommendation was subject to post-approval updates to ensure its clarity and correctness over time.
